Define the Duty Cycle Before Testing


A useful test begins with the real application. Record the extended and compressed length, working stroke, operating angle, opening frequency and expected service temperature. A cabinet lid opened ten times per day creates a different duty profile from industrial equipment cycling every minute. The test fixture should reproduce the actual mounting orientation and avoid side load on the piston rod.


Cycle speed also matters. Running a gas spring too quickly can create heat that would not occur in normal service. Excessive temperature changes internal pressure, seal friction and damping behavior. Measure More Than Pass or Fail
